Poached pears in port wine is a traditional side dish which can be served with roast turkey, duck or any of the classical stews such as beef bourguignon or coq au vin.

- Peal the pears, cut in half and remove the core.
- Place the pears together with the port wine and spices in a small sauce pan. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 20-30 minutes.
